Where is Akumal and Las Casitas?

Las Casitas Akumal is in the Village of Akumal, about 95 km south (about 1 1/2 hours drive) from the Cancun airport on a 4-lane divided highway (Hwy 307).  When you approach Akumal by car, you will see an overhead sign for Akumal and an overpass.  Drive under the overpass and see a sign for “Retorno” (a U-turn).  Get into the left lane and make the U-turn to go the opposite direction on Hwy 307.  Stay in the right lane, travel approximately one hundred yards and you will see the first right turn, which is the entrance to Playa Akumal.  Turn right on this access road to Akumal beach.  The Reception desk for Las Casitas Akumal is about a quarter of a mile down the road at the entrance arch, on the left.

A Note about Safety

Many people have read about problems in Mexico. Nearly all of them are on the West Coast or the border areas to the United States. The location of Akumal is in an area that is quiet and out of the way and on a large white sand beach that is protected by coral reefs. Las Casitas is on an isolated fenced-in “point” with a private road and security guards on both the ocean and road sides. You will feel as safe and secure as you would in any Caribbean resort.
